TransIndia – Documentary on Transgenders by Meera Darji

Did you watch the Amazon Series Transparent?

Have you considered watching it now that it walked away with two Golden Globe Awards courtesy of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association? One to creator Jill Soloway for Best TV Comedy. and Jeffrey Tambor won for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical.

I watched when it was still new and unknown. I liked the series and gave the show a very positive review which you can read here.

If you wish to hear what the show’s creator, Jill Soloway. thinks and how the show came to be, you can listen to her interview here.

All of the above is basically a preamble. I happen to have an acquaintance who lives in Leicester in the UK. She’s in university in an honors program for film studies. Her name is Meera Darji, and film is her career.

Meera has her own page on the IMDB – with a list of her multiple credits as Producer, Writer, Director, and Cinematographer Editor, and Writer.

Currently in pre-production is a documentary that Meera is making called Transindia: A Documentary Exploring the Life of Hijras. Hijra has the same meaning as transgender.

You can read about Transindia on Facebook:

or you can join the Twitter feed:

Meera has also put together a Proposal Pitch video for the Documentary Transindia. Give it a watch and you can see and hear Meera discussing the project.

Now you may be asking why I am helping Meera. I discovered her work last May, and I spoke with this young film maker on the record. I published the interview/post on June 5th, 2014.

I thought her work was superb. It also showed strong promise. Combining skills, with youthful energy, and a passion for the cinematic arts, this young film maker has a sparkling future before her. So when I heard about this project, I sent her my support. Not just encouragement and good wishes, but a cash donation to help fund her project.

Meera has set up a means to help defray her costs and fund the project at I hope you will offer her some support too. There are some very nice perks available to you based on the size of your contribution. Thank you and have a look –
